SMS Credits: How They Work & Topping Up

Every text you send through Woofle uses a credit. Here's exactly how credits work — what you get each month, what a single message costs, where the price is shown, and how to top up when you're running low.

The short version: texts cost credits, a paid plan includes 100 credits a month, a normal-length message is 1 credit, and Woofle always shows the cost before you send. You're never charged for a message that doesn't go through.

What a credit is

A credit is simply the unit Woofle uses to count text messages. Sending a text spends credits from your balance; you can see that balance at any time on the Messages page and in the header at the top of the app. Nothing else in Woofle uses credits — they're only ever spent when a real text goes out to a client.

And to be clear about the one thing groomers always ask: Woofle never sends a text on its own. There's no background robot quietly burning through your credits. Every message is one you choose to send, so your balance only ever moves when you decide it should.

Your monthly included batch

If you're on a paid plan, Woofle adds 100 credits to your balance every month automatically. These arrive on the same date each month for as long as your subscription is active — you don't have to do anything to claim them. For a typical one-person salon sending reminders and the odd re-book nudge, that monthly batch covers a good chunk of normal use on its own.

The monthly batch is part of your plan rather than something separate to buy. If you ever need more than your included credits in a given month, that's what topping up is for — more on that below.

What a single text costs

Most texts cost 1 credit. A credit covers a normal-length message — comfortably enough for a reminder, a re-book nudge, or a "your groom's all done, payment's due" note. Only longer or unusual messages cost more, and there are really just two things that push the cost up:

  • Length. A standard message fits in one credit. Write a longer one and it rolls over into a second credit, and a very long one into a third. Most of your day-to-day texts stay comfortably inside a single credit.
  • Special characters and emoji. Plain letters, numbers and ordinary punctuation are the most economical. Certain symbols — and especially emoji — take up more room, so a message with them fits less text into each credit. A dog emoji here and there is lovely, but it's worth knowing it nudges the cost up.

This is normal for text messaging everywhere — it's not a Woofle quirk. The good news is you never have to do this maths in your head, because Woofle works it out for you and shows it on screen.

The cost is shown before you send

Whenever you compose a message — in an appointment window, from a dashboard reminder, or as an ad-hoc text from a client's history — the compose box shows the credit cost in the corner, and it updates live as you type. So if you add a longer note or drop in an emoji, you'll see the number tick up straight away, before anything is sent.

That means there are no surprises. You always read the message, see what it'll cost, and then send it — the cost is right there next to the send button. If your balance is too low to cover a particular message, Woofle tells you, so you'll know to top up before sending it.

You're not charged for messages that fail

Texts occasionally don't make it — a mistyped number, a network hiccup at the carrier. When that happens, no credits are taken. A credit is only ever spent on a message that genuinely goes out. A failed message is clearly flagged in the client's message history, and once you've sorted the problem — usually a corrected mobile number — you can retry it from there. The retry is a fresh send, charged only if it succeeds.

Topping up

When you want more credits — whether you've used this month's batch or you're heading into a busy spell — you can top up at any time. Top-ups are a one-off purchase: the credits land in your balance and stay there until you use them. They don't expire at the end of the month, and they sit alongside your monthly included credits in the same balance.

  1. Go to the Messages page

    Open Messages from the menu. At the top you'll see your current credit balance and a Top Up Credits button.

  2. Pick a credit bundle

    Woofle offers a few sizes — 100, 250 or 500 credits. The larger bundles work out a little cheaper per credit, so the screen shows a small saving on the bigger two. Choose whichever suits how much you send.

  3. Pay securely and you're done

    Checkout is handled by our payment provider, so your card details never touch Woofle. Once the payment goes through you're brought back to the Messages page, and the new credits appear in your balance a moment later — ready to use straight away.

A note on the free trial. The automatic 100-credit monthly batch is part of a paid subscription. If you're still on the free trial and want to send texts, topping up works exactly the same way — pick a bundle on the Messages page and you're good to go.

Keeping an eye on your balance

Two places keep you informed without any effort. The header shows your running balance from wherever you are in the app, and tapping it takes you to the Messages page. There you'll find the same balance alongside a statement — a running list of credits added (your monthly batch and any top-ups) and credits spent — so you can always see where they've gone.

For most salons, the rhythm is simple: the monthly batch quietly tops you back up, you glance at the header now and then, and you grab a bundle before a busy period if you think you'll need it.

In a nutshell

Credits are just the way Woofle counts your texts. A paid plan brings 100 a month automatically, a normal message costs 1 credit, longer ones and emoji cost a little more, and the price is always on screen before you send. Failed messages cost nothing, and topping up is a couple of taps whenever you need more.
